Prompt: June 14th, 2020

“You belong to me,” she said.

I sat in silence, staring at my room before me. For some reason, I couldn’t stop replaying the night before in my head, the fight we’d had haunting me still. The sun peered in through my blinds and the words she had said floated around before my eyes.

“You belong to me,” she had said, “and you always will. You cannot run from your feelings, nor hide, or even escape.”

Even the next morning, a full night’s sleep between the events and now, I was still haunted. I probably would be for a while. A soft snore broke this reverie, however, drawing my attention to the dog and kitten in my bed. The sight eased the tightness in my chest and I blew my held breath out into the morning air.
