“Hear me out, but what if we didn’t?”
Mina is awakened by the sound of armor clattering and swords being sheathed. Cracking an eye open, she groans at the sight of her fellow new recruits preparing for the day’s training, some still huddled where the schedule is posted, discussing it in hushed tones. She rolls over, pondering if she could get away with not going to training. She knows, of course, that it would blow her cover but her bed is so warm. This thought lulls her back to sleep before she knows it and she is jerked awake by an angry voice.
“Soldier, you are late for a meeting! I sent a messenger down here to catch you before morning exercises, only to find that you’re still in bed and he could not wake you!”
“You do know that I am not actually a soldier? And that all of your soldiers are hopelessly incompetent.”
“Get up, we have to report to the meeting room.”
Mina rolls over and sits up, revealing the stitched and bandaged wounds she’d been hiding for days. “Hear me out, what if we didn’t?”
