Prompt: December 7th, 2020

I survived the drought by hiding in his restaurant.

“How are you not dead?”

“I survived the blood drought by hiding in his restaurant.” I jerk my thumb behind me, knowing the mobster is lurking there in the doorway.

My siblings’ eyes go wide, making them look even more like twins than they already do. Well, they are twins but you take my point. My sister recovers first, the words pouring from her lips. “What do you mean you’ve been taken by a mobster?”

Before I can respond, a low growl creeps through the tense, sudden silence. I groan, wiping my hand from chin to hairline and back again. “Now you’ve done it.”

“Done what?”

“Pissed off the underlings.” Cain’s soft voice is tinged with laughter, as though his men aren’t considering killing my brother and sister for insulting us.
